The Business of Old
"Still, fixing up the branch matters less than befriending the older
member. One elderly member, for instance, drops by regularly to see Jamie
Needham, account manager at Interior Savings Credit Union in Rutland, British
Columbia. Sometimes, she wants to talk business, but often she just wants
to bring Needham up to speed on new developments in her life. “So,
Jamie, did you notice that I’m walking better? I got that hip replacement
we talked about,” she told him recently. Needham has received enough
nudges from this irrepressible member to know that it’s time to invite
her into his offi ce for a chat. After all, she is just one of his many older
members who trusts him, almost blindly, with her financial aff airs."
