Death: Shouldn't you have a choice?
" But if you thought the standard funeral service or cremation were the only options, there is still one more: a green burial, also known as an eco-burial. This movement has spread throughout Britain, and the United States, but it’s still relatively unheard of in B.C., and the Memorial Society of B.C. wants to spread the word.
It’s working on developing a resource list of people who know how to perform a green burial. So far, there is no one listed from the Thompson-Okanagan, but there are organizations in both Vancouver and the Kootenays. Plus, there are communities such as the Dukobours and Society of Friends (Quakers) who have a long tradition of holding what we would call today a green burial.
Death may not be anything new, but the times are changing. There are more of us on the planet, and more who live a long way from loved ones. How we enter the planet is one thing, what we want to do when we leave is something else to consider."
