Chill illustrates another cover for The Source Weekly for their winter wellness issue.
The theme for this illustration was "Holi-dazed" -- how to survive the winter holidays and family traditions, gloominess, gluttony, etc. The request was to illustrate a little fantasy escapism from all that. This is the third illustration in a row for which I was asked to draw creatures.
The raccoon, half-saint Bernard, squirrel and rabbit all escape into a candy cane forest where they drink hot chocolate and warm themselves around a candy cane fire. The dog carries a candy cane stick with a pouch to show he's simply had it, he's runaway. The forest animals wear cozy winter jackets, mittens and ear muffs. They've brought survival gear with them to get through the holidays and find their way to each other and their forest retreat. A compass, flashlights, first-aid box and a red winter sled all help to define this. A sign on a candy cane tree has an x that marks the spot and a miniature squirrel who watches the scene below.
